U11 A vs. Widford Lodge, Wednesday 23rd May 2012
The U11 A team travelled to Widford Lodge on Wednesday to play in the 1000 degrees heat! We batted first and got off to a slow start with only 9 runs off 4 overs. The opening pair of Barnaby Stoner and Jonny Hoile then started to run a few more singles but they needed to up the run rate even more. Once they started running the singles we started to build up some momentum but then they both got out within 2 balls of each other. Ollie Stonham and Harry Sturge came into bat with a real sense of purpose and started running the singles very effectively. Ollie was finally run out for 25. Felsted put up a score of 66 which was good on a pitch with a very slow outfield.
As Felsted went into bowl the pressure was really on to defend the total. The first few overs didn't go to plan but Felsted soon sorted out their fielding and bowling and slowed Widford's run rate. Special mention must go to Harry Nicholls who bowled 4 overs only conceding 3 runs and also took two wicket maidens! It took Widford until the final over to win the match. A very good performance from the boys in the second half of each innings, we just need to start running the singles and be tighter in the field right from the start.
