6th XI vs. The Perse, Wednesday 16th May 2012
Felsted lost 127-6
A lovely
afternoon for cricket at the All Stars Stadium started brightly for the
6th XI (who were playing in their first inter-schools competitive match)
when captain Ernie Griffiths won the toss (with The Perse's captain
incorrectly choosing the left hand as the one containing the bit of
sponge). Ernie elected to field first and, with all members of the 6th
XI bowling two overs, The Perse reached 137 - 4 at the end of their
twenty overs. Highlights from the innings being Harry Britton's 2 overs -
0 runs - 2 wides - 2 wickets, Ivan Pitts conceding no runs off the bat
and a dazzling catch from George Gibb off the bowling of Brock Holmes.
Felsted's innings began steadily with opening partnership Sam Dowling and Ben Harvey guiding Felsted to 6 runs before the final ball of the over. Ben stayed in to add a solid 10 to the total as other batsmen came and went and it became clear that The Perse would only be using a bowling attack of five men. Callum Burns entered the fray and scored a brave 22 (20 from boundaries) before being run out desperate to add more to the total. Barnaby Mitchell followed him in and scored the biggest six of the season thus far, completely clearing the stadium fence. As the final over approached, Felsted needed 16 runs to win with captain Ernie and enthusiastic Brock at the crease. Sadly the final total was 127 - 6 against the 8 men of The Perse (many thanks to George, Ivan, Will Pierpoint, Sam, Matt Stratton and Ben who all fielded for 10 overs for the opposition).
We are very much looking forward to the return leg in June.
