1st XI vs Barnadiston Hall, Saturday 26th May 2012
Felsted won by 131 runs
An impressive win from the 1st XI. Batting first on a very good wicket Will Buttleman (69 no) was joined early when the score was on 8 for 1 by Charlie Latham (79 no). Both batsmen batted very sensibly, playing very straight showing good technique. They shared a very impressive 156 run unbeaten partnership, amassing 164 for 1, which was going to be quite a challenge for the Barnardiston Hall batsmen. It took a total of just 14 out the allotted 25 overs to bowl out the opposition, the pick of the bowling figures was Oliver Tredgett with 3 overs, 1 maiden, 3 wkts for 2 runs, he was on a hat trick but couldn’t quite bowl that final ball to do it! Overall a really good performance.

2nd XI vs KEGS
2nd XI vs. KEGS, Wednesday 23rd May 2012
A
great performance all round. Felsted batted first getting off to a
quick start with openers Cameron Cowie and Christian Lewis scoring 25
runs off the first 5 overs, they were then backed up with excellent
batting from Thomas Walker 59 not out and Angus Muir 52 not out. Felsted
scored 191 runs off 25 overs. Felsted kept up the pressure when in the
field, bowling KEGS out for 60 runs. Great bowling from Matthew Gilham
and Toby Wilkes.
U11 A Widford Lodge
U11 A vs. Widford Lodge, Wednesday 23rd May 2012
The U11 A team travelled to Widford Lodge on Wednesday to play in the 1000 degrees heat! We batted first and got off to a slow start with only 9 runs off 4 overs. The opening pair of Barnaby Stoner and Jonny Hoile then started to run a few more singles but they needed to up the run rate even more. Once they started running the singles we started to build up some momentum but then they both got out within 2 balls of each other. Ollie Stonham and Harry Sturge came into bat with a real sense of purpose and started running the singles very effectively. Ollie was finally run out for 25. Felsted put up a score of 66 which was good on a pitch with a very slow outfield.
As Felsted went into bowl the pressure was really on to defend the total. The first few overs didn't go to plan but Felsted soon sorted out their fielding and bowling and slowed Widford's run rate. Special mention must go to Harry Nicholls who bowled 4 overs only conceding 3 runs and also took two wicket maidens! It took Widford until the final over to win the match. A very good performance from the boys in the second half of each innings, we just need to start running the singles and be tighter in the field right from the start.

1st XI vs KEGS
1st XI vs KEGS, Wednesday 23rd May 2012
Felsted won by 41 runs
On a glorious sunny day we finally had a game on our main square. Kegs won the toss and put us into bat. Will Buttleman (18) and Boomer Entwistle (31) got us off to a good start scoring at around 5 runs per over. Charlie Latham (17) batting at number 3 looked in fine form, until a lapse in concentration led to his dismissal. With a total of 122 from 25 overs we had a reasonable total to bowl at. With Ned Potter and Charlie Latham (6 overs, 1 maiden, 1 wicket for 13) opening we started to apply some pressure to the KEGS batting line up. With the introduction of spin from Will Buttleman his first overs was a double wicket maiden and his fourth over was even better, with a ‘hat trick’, impressive bowling! His figures were 5 overs, 2 maidens, 5 wickets for 16 runs.

U11 A vs Orwell Park
U11 A vs Orwell Park, Saturday 19th May 2012
Felsted won by 3 runs
Felsted 100-5 (20 overs) R.MacLennan 52; B.Stoner 22
Orwell Park 97-3 (20 0vers) R.Maclennan 1-12 in 4 overs; D.Townsend 1-9 in 3 overs.
Felsted won the toss and decided to bat first, getting off to a very good start with an opening partnership of 48 between Robbie MacLennan and Barnaby Stoner in 10 overs. However, the team did not really accelerate against some tight Orwell bowling and fielding in the latter part of the innings and there were doubts as to whether 100 was going to be enough. Felsted bowled very tidily at first and after 15 overs, Orwell were only on 57-1, but they then started to attack and Felsted's bowling and fileding became a bit ragged, so it went down to the last ball of the match with 4 needed to win. Fortunately, Orwell only scored a single off the last ball, so we won (just!). A pleasing result, but still plenty to work on in practice this week.

2nd XI vs Orwell Park
2nd XI vs Orwell Park, Saturday 19th May
Felsted won by 57 runs.
A very comfortable win. The 2nd XI improved their performance considerably from their first outing at St Faith’s. We batted first, getting off to a good start with Cameron Cowie and Christian Lewis, the openers were well backed up and the runs kept coming. Well done to Angus Muir with 42 runs.
We then kept our bowling tight and fielded exceptionally well, bowling Orwell out for 82 runs.

3rd XI vs Orwell Park
3rd XI vs Orwell Park, Saturday 19th May 2012
Felsted won by 7 wickets.
Orwell 87 all out. Felsted 90 for 3.
Felsted won the toss and put Orwell Park into bat on what looked like another excellent batting wicket. Monks, Rowe, Carter and Drewitt-Barlow all bowled well and managed to bowl out Orwell for 87.
In reply Head was bowled first ball and both Stoner and Jardine went quickly. At one time Felsted were 13-3.
However, once Tom and Alex Dalman came together the match never looked in doubt. Tom played the anchor role as Alex took the attack to the opposition. Fittingly Alex struck the winning runs and with brought up his own 53 not out.

U11 C vs Orwell Park, Saturday 19th May 2012
Felsted won by 13 runs
What a transformation. A completely different looking team took on Orwell Park on Saturday. They had purpose and intent. Bowling and batting was much improved. In a pairs match, Orwell Park managed 280 in their allotted overs thanks to some tight bowling by our boys. We managed a score of 293 in our overs, although it did get pretty tight towards the end. A very deserved victory by a much improved team.

1st XI vs Orwell Park, Saturday 19th May 2012
Felsted lost by 7 wickets
Felsted 104 for 7 from 26 overs. Orwell Park 105 for 3.
On a very slow pitch our batsmen found it hard to play their shots and score sufficient runs to make a decent total to bowl at. Will Buttleman opening the innings played well, scoring when he could, scoring 31 before falling to a leading edge. He was supported well by Charlie Latham (16) and Thomas Hitchcock (17), both being caught. The bowlers began well making the Orwell batsmen earn their runs, before a very tall and strong boy started to hit the ball very hard. He quickly took them through to win by 7 wickets, scoring a quick 50 not out, winning the game with 5 overs to spare.

5th XI vs. The Perse
5th XI vs. The Perse, Wednesday 16th May 2012
Felsted won by 2 runs
What a match! The Perse batted first and scored 75 runs off their 20 overs with some tremendous bowling and fielding from the 5th XI to keep the run rate down. There were spectacular catches and some super bowling from all the players with Henry Scarborough bowling our first maiden over of the season, Ed Yeatts following that with a wicket maiden and William Alexander taking 3 wickets in just two overs! Henry Lewis bowled a tidy spell as did Fred Latham, Dan Austin, Serge Savva and Jackson Buckler with wickets falling steadily. Jem Salmon kept wicket well and kept the fielders on their toes! After tea William and Elliot Howell opened the batting well, aiming to score 4 an over. After 8 overs we were on course and the victory looked secure. Then we collapsed! William was bowled out, Charlie Gilbert was run out (not his fault!) and then the wickets tumbled. With 8 wickets down Serge Savva and Fred Latham steadied the innings and we crawled slowly but surely towards the total. On 75 runs Fred was out and Henry came in knowing one run would win it and one wicket would end it! Both he and Serge proved strong enough to pass the test and with 3 overs to go we moved onto 77 to win. Magnificent! A truly great match played in the right spirit with the right result! Well done all. Delighted team captain Dan Austin said of the match “that the team pulled together and showed a real spirit to win. I think, however, we might need to work on our batting more!”

U11 C vs. St Faith’s
It was apparent in the U11 C game yesterday that we had not really been on grass and we had not had much match practice. St Faith's seemed to be a lot more 'match ready' than we were. They managed 150 in 20 overs, although our wides and no balls made up a third of their total. In response, we managed a respectable 121. The positives to take from the day were that we fielded very well and the concentration was excellent. However, we do need a lot more bowling practice and I am sure he boys would agree.

Felsted lost by 68 runs.
A disappointing start to the season saw Felsted well beaten by a strong St Faith’s team. St Faith’s made 163 for 2 from their 25 overs, with Hamish Rowe being the pick of our bowlers. We struggled with the bat until Alex Dalman and Luke Bury put up some brave resistance with 32 and 17.

U11 A vs. St Faith’s, Wedesday 16th May 2012
Felsted lost by 10 runs
The U11 A team finally got to play their first match of the season on Wednesday and came up against a strong and organised team from St Faith’s. St Faith's won the toss and chose to bat first. Felsted started well getting their first wicket for just 7 runs but after this St Faith’s steadied into their batting and clock up a good score of 111 for 4. Well done to Robbie, Owen, Ollie Butler and David all of whom took a wicket off their bowling.
Felsted went into bat with Robbie (25) and Barnaby (10) getting a good pace and running well between the wickets. The run rate then started to slow and even with Owen hitting a good number of 4s the singles just weren't being run often enough. With 2 overs to go Felsted needed 33 runs and some excellent batting from Owen (41 not out) and Harry Nicholls (8 not out) meant they got 22 of them and only lost the game by 10 runs. The boys need to remember that there is no time for "just staying in" and that they should always be looking to get those extra couple of runs off each over.
A good start to the season against a very good team.

U11 B vs. St Faith’s, Wednesday 16th May 2012
Felsted fielded fist and were all very excited and nervous, very nervous. The bowlers gave away to many wides and no balls (2 runs each) and dropped three catches. One catch by wicket keeper Xavier Cook. St Faith's reached 133 for 7. We managed to reach 74 all out with a steady innings from Nicholas Lawrence, Joshua Bird and Tobias Butler. The squad had a good experience and are keen to go forward and win the next match.

1st XI vs St Faith’s
1st XI vs St Faith’s, Wednesday 16th May 2012
Felsted lost by 4 runs
On a slow pitch we restricted the St Faith’s batsmen to 103 for 9 from 28 overs, with some sound bowling performances from Ned Potter, Charlie Latham, Oliver Tredgett, Will Buttleman and Archie Lucas. In chasing our opponents total we started steadily scoring just about on the required rate, getting to 43 runs when the first wicket fell (Matthew Morley-Jacob 21). Will Buttleman batted well for his 25, before falling with the total at 67 for 2. The remaining batsman chipped away at the target and we finally reached 99 for 9, just 4 runs short. The St Faith’s bowling was generally accurate and their fielding made it hard for our batsmen to get on top at any stage. Overall an enjoyable game of cricket from both teams.

6th XI vs. The Perse
6th XI vs. The Perse, Wednesday 16th May 2012
Felsted lost 127-6
A lovely
afternoon for cricket at the All Stars Stadium started brightly for the
6th XI (who were playing in their first inter-schools competitive match)
when captain Ernie Griffiths won the toss (with The Perse's captain
incorrectly choosing the left hand as the one containing the bit of
sponge). Ernie elected to field first and, with all members of the 6th
XI bowling two overs, The Perse reached 137 - 4 at the end of their
twenty overs. Highlights from the innings being Harry Britton's 2 overs -
0 runs - 2 wides - 2 wickets, Ivan Pitts conceding no runs off the bat
and a dazzling catch from George Gibb off the bowling of Brock Holmes.
Felsted's innings began steadily with opening partnership Sam Dowling and Ben Harvey guiding Felsted to 6 runs before the final ball of the over. Ben stayed in to add a solid 10 to the total as other batsmen came and went and it became clear that The Perse would only be using a bowling attack of five men. Callum Burns entered the fray and scored a brave 22 (20 from boundaries) before being run out desperate to add more to the total. Barnaby Mitchell followed him in and scored the biggest six of the season thus far, completely clearing the stadium fence. As the final over approached, Felsted needed 16 runs to win with captain Ernie and enthusiastic Brock at the crease. Sadly the final total was 127 - 6 against the 8 men of The Perse (many thanks to George, Ivan, Will Pierpoint, Sam, Matt Stratton and Ben who all fielded for 10 overs for the opposition).
We are very much looking forward to the return leg in June.

4th XI vs. St Faith’s, Wednesday 16th May 2012
Felsted Lost by 8 wickets
The 4th XI played St Faith’s this week and had a disappointing 8 wicket loss with being bowled out for a measly 84 in only 19 overs. The only real bright light was when Toby Guild (9) and opener Leo Jewel (23) had a partnership of 35 for the 5th wicket. Another highlight was Ed Padfield’s six in the 3rd over as we had a promising start with 17 for none after 3 overs. Our bowlers failed to build pressure and the amount of wides and no balls bowled kept St Faith’s in the game and above the required run rate.

U9 A & B vs Bishop’s Stortford College, Tuesday 8th May 2012
Felsted won by 3 wickets
Despite seeming a close result, this was in fact a convincing victory, as batsmen had to be retired to even up the game. Some good bowling (Ebbie Hoare 2-20) and tight fielding restricted BSCJS to 89 off 20 overs, following which great early-order batting from Harry Gallian and Henry Howarth, in particular, as good as secured the game for us. Well done to all the boys, especially as this was the first time we have got onto grass this term!

U11 C v Fairstead, Wednesday 2nd May 2012
Felsted Won by 201 runs.
At last, a cricket match at Felsted! It may have been an indoor match and it may have been a practice match, but it was a cricket match nevertheless. Fairstead had got their wires crossed a little and turned up yesterday to play us. The Cs coped admirably with this and also had to cope with a whole load of new rules for indoor cricket. However, they got on with this and although it took a while for some of the boys to get the hang of the game, we managed a victory where we scored 201 runs to their 179. It was a very useful experience for both teams and their coaches who can now use this to build on for the rest of the season if we ever manage to play outside on the grass.
