Bishop's Stortford College

Wednesday 8th May

1st XI: Won by 134 runs
Having won the toss again, Will Buttleman decided to bat first. After a steady start our two opening batsmen, Will Buttleman and Boomer Entwistle, fell to mistimed shots being caught. Tom Walker (37) shared a hundred partnership with Tom Hitchcock whose stroke play and shot selection was terrific, scoring his maiden Preparatory School century, being 106 not out at the end of the innings. Well done Tom, a superb innings. We eventually scored 192 for 4 from our 30 overs.
The Bishop's Stortford batting at times struggled with the accuracy and pace of some of our bowling. With wickets steadily falling we worked hard in the field restricting the runs. Our opponents’ last wicket fell in the 22nd over, all out for 58. The pick of the bowlers were Nancy Hebron (2 wkts), Elliott Snooks (2 wkts) and Sam Wisbey (3 wkts).

2nd XI
Felsted batted first scoring 156 for 8. A very slow start from Felsted losing 6 wickets for 32 runs, but the lower order steadied the ship with Luke Bury 28 runs and a fine partnership from Peter Hipkin, 18 runs not out and Harvey Moor 51 runs not out.
Bishop's Stortford never really looked like matching our total, with some solid bowling from Jonny Hoile 1 wicket, Christian Lewis 2 wickets, Aspen Drewitt-Barlow, Owen Thomas 2 wickets and Peter Hipkin 3 wickets. Bishop’s Stortford finally finished on 93 runs all out.

3rd XI
After being put into bat Felsted found themselves on 52 for 4 despite a good 19 from Cochrane. Ollie Stonham smashed a superb 66 including 12 4’s which totally changed the match. Silas Turner Jones and Dan Conlon both scored twenty odd. A score of 178 would take some getting. All of the Felsted bowlers bowled well. They bowled a good line and length and were supported well by the fielders. Two wickets each for Conlon, Gallian and Turner Jones sealed a convincing victory by 87 runs. Man of the match Ollie Stonham for his magnificent 66. A great effort from Felsted.

4th XI
The 4th XI played their third match of the season against Bishop's Stortford College at home. Felsted won the toss and bowled first. The opening bowlers managed to bowl tight lines and it paid off as we had them 4 wickets down within the first few overs with Jonathan Barber and Henry Lewis taking the wickets. More wickets followed until a last wicket stand helped BSC to finish 70 all out. In reply Felsted didn't get off to the best of starts as we lost one of our opening batsmen on the third ball of the innings! However some steady and brilliant batting by Toby Guild and Max McIlvenna meant they guided the team home to win by 8 wickets. A great effort by the team but still some things to work on such as fielding and running between the wickets nonetheless a brilliant victory over the local rivals!

U11A
Bishop's Stortford College set Felsted a target of 160 to win on a damp wicket at Felsted. A large number of extras, 42 in all, made up their total which was always going to be a challenging amount of runs to chase down.

Townsend and Gallian got Felsted off to a solid start putting on 53 before the loss of Townsend for 18, straight and steady bowling made it difficult for Felsted to chase down the runs and they ended up 44 runs short.

Far too many balls where bowled which Felsted failed to score off and looking for singles is the key to any innings, once again Gallian looked in good form and  scored 46 before being run out off the final ball of the innings.

Bishop's Stortford College 159 for 8 off 25 overs
Felsted 115 for 5 off 25 overs
Felsted lost by 44 runs

U11BFelsted were put into bat and began well with Archie Pritchard scoring 11 runs but we were in trouble until Gus Burton and Felix Webster came in at 8 and 9 batsmen scoring 10 and 11.

Felix was caught after hitting a very hard off drive. Felsted scored 70 all out. Bishop's Stortford were nervous and Felsted bowled efficiently to begin with (wicket maiden by Sebastian Martinez-Meinnett) but our bowlers could not keep it tight enough. The fielders showed some good skills and made some good pick up and throws to get three run outs. Bishop's Stortford reached 70 in 12 overs.

U11C
This was a very close game in the end which we lost on the last ball of the penultimate over. We batted first, and were a little slow in getting runs as the boys were not used to 20/20 cricket and thought that they needed to stay in. However the innings, things picked up and we managed a respectable 90 for 2. They started their innings quicker and accumulated runs quicker, although our fielding was a match for this and they only got their 90 in the last ball of the penultimate over, having lost six wickets. A good game and a real learning experience for our boys who will come out fighting next week.
