Haileybury

Saturday 27th April

!st XI: Won by 74 runs
Having won the toss we elected to bat first. Playing positively the openers of Will Buttleman (55) and Boomer Entwistle (9) started well both playing attacking shots. The score steadily mounted as each batsman contributed to the end total of 172 from 30 overs - Tom Walker (20), Robbie MacLennan (26), Harry Sturge (26) and Nancy Hebron (14).
Barnardiston started quickly, scoring well above the required run rate. Once we had broken through we started to take regular wickets through some accurate bowling and good catching. Wicket takers were Will Buttleman (4), Tom Hitchcock (3) and Nancy Hebron (2). A good team performance.

2nd  XI: Won by 122 runs
Felsted put into bat scoring quickly to reach 174 for 4, top batsmen Owen Thomas 30 not out, Harry Raffan 29 not out. Barnardiston reached 52 all out. Wickets from Peter Hipkin 4 overs 15 runs for 3, Harvey Moor 3 overs 5 runs for 4.

U11 A XI:Won by 50 runs
Barnardiston Hall were the visitors to Felsted in which a game of 25 overs a side was played.
Felsted won the toss, and elected to bat. Townsend and Gallian opened the batting and put on 39 runs before Townsend was caught out. Bird came in at number 3 and scored 30, which included a fine 6 pulled over mid-wicket. When he was out a mini collapse ensued with 3 out of the next 5 batsmen losing their wickets for no runs. Gallian making only his second appearance scored his maiden 50 and helped at the end by Aitken, they pushed the score to 160 off 25 overs.

In reply Barnardiston Hall made 110 for 6 off their 25 overs. O'Connor with 3 wickets and Townsend with 2 were the pick of the bowlers.

38 extras were conceded by the Felsted bowlers, mostly in wides and this is an aspect of the game that needs improvement.
All in all a good result- but plenty to work on.

Felsted  160 for 8 off  25 overs
Barnardiston Hall  110 for 6 off 25overs
Felsted won by 50 runs

U11 B
Barnardiston put us into bat and Felsted reached 128 for 3 in 20 overs. The batsmen were always turning the runs over or more often their bowlers helped us along with many wides and no balls. Highest score was 20 by Luke Mulley.

Barnardiston came in to bat. Our bowlers did a varied job: Leslie Squibb got two wickets in a row, bowled middle stump then could not find a line and length again, Felix Webster was the most accurate bowler only giving away 10 run in 24 balls including his wides and no balls, Gus Burton also bowled accurately with a maiden over. Barnardiston reached 102 runs all out.

Well done to the fielders keeping alert although we will need to have some catching practice.

Brentwood School

Saturday 20th April
The first Saturday of term and the start of the cricket season at Felsted, with teams at home and away to Brentwood School. Please read on for match reports and scores.

Felsted 1st XIWon by 56 runs.
We batted first and scored runs steadily and very sensibly. Will Buttleman batted with ease and showed very good timing, working the ball well with a variety of shots all around the ground. Wickets fell at regular intervals throughout the innings with partnerships, Will from Boomer, Nancy and Christian. We ended up scoring 166 from 30 overs with Will unbeaten on 97, a great performance.

Brentwood started off very quickly, amassing 70 from the first 10 overs. Once we managed to break the opening partnership, wickets fell at regular intervals. The pick of the bowlers were Will B, Elliot S and Peter H.

A good opening game with lots of promise for the rest of the season.

Felsted 2nd XI
Lost by 6 wickets
Felsted batted first and struggled to 64 all out, Harry N scoring 20 runs. Brentwood batted well to score the winning runs in 18 overs. Good bowling from Aspen D.B picking up 3 wickets, also well bowled to Owen T, Harry N and Harvey M.

Felsted 3rd XI
Felsted travelled to Brentwood with several key players missing and were looking for something special from those playing. We battled to 124 for 8 from 25 overs. Thanks mainly to Leo J 38 not out, Max C 22 and Alex M 23. Will B led the team, extremely well, and along with great assistance from all the other bowlers, kept Brentwood down to 114 in their 25 overs.

An excellent win by 10 runs. Man of the match Hugo J, who bowled really well and was inspirational in the field.

A great effort and well done.

Felsted 4th XI
The 4th XI played their first match of the season against Brentwood U12B side. As is usual for a beginning of the season match, the boys were rusty especially with running between the wickets and their calling. Felsted batted first and managed to set a target of 78 runs thanks to Harry D and Jem S steadying the ship after an early collapse. In response, the team bowled very well and most of the bowlers managed to bowl accurate lines which restricted the number of extras. However, after a few good wickets it was little too late for Felsted as Brentwood won the match by 5 wickets. Well done to Henry L for taking 2 wickets in a row and George T who took an excellent catch in the field.

Felsted U11A

Felsted travelled to Brentwood for their first match of the season. They lost the toss and were asked to bat on a bright but chilly day. D. Townsend and T. King got the season off to a fine start with an opening partnership of 89 off 16 overs before Townsend was run out for 43 in very unfortunate circumstances. H.Gallian making his debut came in at number three and scored 8 not out, while King batted right through the innings scoring 35 not out.

Some good bowling and a fine fielding effort from the boys, which included four run outs restricted Brentwood to 42 for 7 off their 20 overs.

Felsted 117 for 1 off 20 overs
Brentwood 42 for 7 off 20 overs
Felsted won by 75 runs

U11 B team
A very difficult task to select X1 players but decisions were made, right or wrong, and a very good performance by all the players above expectations. Fantastic. We loaned at great cost two of our reserves to Brentwood, Felix W and Leslie S, who both caused Felsted problems with a couple of good bowling sessions.

Brentwood chose to field. Felsted batted sensibly although at times were reluctant to push for runs. Rory A 11 runs, Archie P 7 runs opened confidently, Dominic S 13 not out kept things going, Freddie 1 run out, Cameron bowled by Leslie, Harry caught from Felix's bowling, Oscar 12 runs closed things up not out. Extras did the most damage as usual. Total of 109 for 5.

Felsted's fielding and positioning was alert most of the time and efficient. Well done fielders with a catch behind by Harry B-B at Wicket Keeper who had a solid performance. Felsted's bowlers bowled quite accurately. Matthew H gained 2 wickets quite early, Sebastian M-M a wicket on the last ball of the match, Joshua B managed to get a good line and length in his last over. Gus B showed power and length and prevented Brentwood from scoring runs. After 20 overs Brentwood managed 98.

20 over Match Felsted Won 109 runs for 5 to Brentwood 98 for 7.

Very exciting at the end. Well done all the players.
